Our award-winning festival, Liverpool Loves and its programme of fun-filled family attractions are heading into the heart of the city centre for the first time this Summer – as a second site was announced today.
We are thrilled to reveal that Liverpool ONE has now come on-board as a host location for this much-loved celebration of local culture, food and wellbeing – which takes place across the weekend of Saturday 5 August and Sunday 6 August.
The new Liverpool ONE site centres around Chavasse Park and joins existing plans that were recently announced for Derby Square. It has been revealed that Derby Square will host an exciting Main Stage zone with street food and open-air bars, under the gaze of the historic Queen Victoria monument.
Liverpool Loves is a celebration of all things Liverpool – with four core themes of business, culture, food and well-being represented across a diverse programme of entertainment and family-friendly attractions. The festival showcases everything that is great about life in the region by providing a platform for local people, businesses and communities to shine.
With its new format for 2017, Liverpool Loves is once again set to become a real highlight of the city region’s Summer events calendar.
The festival has continued to go from strength to strength since its inaugural year launched with an attendance of 27,000 visitors over three days in 2015. An audience of 40,000 attended the second event in 2016, and we are now on a mission to continue to build on this success.
Liverpool ONE will host an array of cultural and community activities as part of the Wellbeing Zone across two areas – Thomas Steers Way and Chavasse Park.
The Culturebox Stage on Thomas Steers Way will feature entertainment on both days. The stone steps which act as a natural gathering point, will be transformed into a colourful Urban Garden. Here visitors can look forward to international community groups and choirs on the Saturday, while Sunday will feature a community dance programme featuring local performance academies from across the Liverpool City Region.
The Wellbeing Zone in Chavasse Park will offer visitors a range of feel good, have-a-go activities for all the family; including tai chi, drumming workshops, yoga, circus skills, and storytelling sessions. This will run alongside Liverpool ONE’s very own Summer Festival.
Saturday’s line-up will be curated by The Guide Liverpool and SoulFest, and will run from 11am to 9pm. Sunday’s programme will run from 11am to 7pm, hosted by The Rider Podcast and John Gibbons from The Anfield Wrap. Both days will feature a street food market and festivals bars – offering visitors a fun, friendly atmosphere reminiscent of an open-air European piazza.
Liverpool Loves organisers Orb CIC has a strong, proven track record in staging major city events and festivals.
Festival Director Josh Boyd from Orb CIC added: “After two very successful years of establishing Liverpool Loves, growing the event, and ultimately making Liverpool Loves ‘The People’s Festival’ – this is a very exciting time as we take the project forward to a new phase.
“We’re really delighted to be working with Liverpool ONE. This destination is a visitor attraction in its own right with huge appeal and a strong events calendar, and we’re thrilled that Liverpool Loves will now run alongside this excellent programme for visitors.
“Our community performances and family activities will create a great atmosphere around the Wellbeing Zone at Liverpool ONE. And we cannot wait to announce the full lineup for our Main Stage in the coming weeks too!”
